Using crushed grape skins in winemaking is a common practice, especially for adding tannins, color, and complexity to the wine. Here's how you can use grape skins with fresh juice: Add the complete pack in a 5 gallons batch during the primary fermentation (7 to 10 days). Using a muslin bag to contain grape skins during winemaking is a common technique that allows you to easily manage the extraction process and minimize mess. After fermentation is complete, remove the muslin bag containing the grape skins from the fermentation. Squeeze the bag gently to extract any remaining liquid trapped in the skins.
